Shailendra

Shailendra
Birth: 30th August 1923
Birthplace: Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Profession: Poet, Bollywood Film song Lyricists

Born in Rawalpindi on 30th August 1923 as Shankardas Kesrilal Shailendra, Shailendra was the eldest of the four sons of Parvati Devi and Sri Kesrilal. During his childhood days his family moved to Mathura for good but the accidental death of his mother after the shift caused a deep pain for Shailendra, which almost turned him an atheist.

Shailendra started his career with the orthodox method of joining the government organization and lead his secure life. His job in Indian Railways brought him to the city of Bombay in 1947, when the Indian freedom struggle was at its best. The stereotype and technical aspect of his job was totally out of line with is artistic nature. He spent more of his duty hours writing poetry than toiling in the workshop. His Incharge always used to complain about his working habits and was the cause of general resentment.

Raj Kapoor discovers Shailendra

Shailendra decided to take part in the Freedom struggle in his own style. He used to write verses and fiery poems, which would ignite the masses. His poem ‘Jalta hai Punjab’ was a highlight and when reading out aloud during a public meeting, Raj Kapoor caught eye of him. Raj Kapoor saw an emerging star for Indian history and expressed his desire to buy the poems Shailendra has written for his new production. Shailendra, the young patriot blood refused to do so. But due to some domestic reasons and responsibilities, Shailendra approached Raj Kapoor and agreed to his terms. His first project was ‘Barsaat’. ‘Barsaat’ is one of the musical hit of the last century.

Shailendra had best of his association with Shankar-Jaikishan, but shared a equally pleasant rappot with musical giants of those days, like Salil Chowdhary (Madhumati), S. N. Tripathi, (Sangeet Samrat Tanseen), S.D. Burman (Guide and Bandini) and Pt. Ravi Shankar (Anuradha).

He won the Filmfare award for Best Lyricist thrice. Out of the three two were won in consecutive years. The first came in 1958 for the song ‘Ye mera deewanapan hai’ from the film Yahudi, and the second in 1959 for the evergreen ‘Sab kuch seekha hamne’ from Anari. In 1968 Shailendra won it again for the third time for ‘Main gaaun tum so jaao’, from 'Brahmachari'.

Shailendra considered his life as his real poetry. He used to derive inspiration from his walks along Juhu beach every morning. He wrote songs for almost all occasions of life, let alone ordinary situations. Those lyrics were vibrantly alive, in the sense they went far beyond the context of the film situation for which they were intended, and lived on long after the film itself had passed from memory. There is a Shailendra song for any emotion, any situation, from birth to death, such was his versatility.

Shailendra's end days

It is quite ironical that for the man who loved life so much, the spectra of death always haunted him. He was obsessed by death. There was no fear involved, but a kind of helplessness drew him towards it. His producing Teesri Kasam caused him several heartaches and it was also the ultimate cause of his death. But what bothered him was not the film's failure at the box-office, but that his investment in friends he trusted and loved went wrong. Shailendra was admitted to the hospital on December 13 1966, but on his way he decided to stop at the famous cottage at the RK Studios to call on Raj Kapoor, where he promised R.K. that he would complete the lyrics for ‘Jeena yahan marna yahan’ for Mera Naam Joker. That was one promise he could never keep, for Shailendra died on the following day, which also happened to be R.K’s birthday. Reading the following lines from 'Anari' can see his obsession for death:

"Ke mar ke bhi kisi ko yaad aaenge
Kisi ke aansuon mein muskuraenge
Kahega phool har kali se baar baar
Jeena isi ka naam hai"

Lyricist Shailendra is most remembered for his outstanding achievements with Raj Kapoor and Shankar Jaikishan in almost all the R.K. films. His death on December 14, 1966 saw one of the leading lights of the film industry extinguished.

Human Values
Like Ritu Nanda write in her books Raj kapoor Woes Maybe young on 23 years old but in his eyes that he sees already every thing and Know many things that people like us don’t learn in 23 Years old.

True Love wily can’t exist with out tears. If you well look around you see many people that Cry when they in love. In English movie when man tell a woman that he love her and she don’t know this she smile but with tears in the eyes. When same one asks a woman to marry him she smile and have tears in the same time. When the man go and leave the woman back in home and go to army they cry and smile and when he be back and they hug they again and cry again this time from happiness. This in are life in the same screen Raj Kapoor not cry because she sing her song. Like he say Love don’t have time it just happened like that. Before Raj Kapoor Cry he smile to Nargis in the beginning and then a minute latter he get sad Same time the tears comes with out you know this. This what happened when you love.
Even it happened to me when I hear same song that I wily love and it sound so nice to my hears I don’t know how because I start to cry then. I even don’t know why but this is the real way of love.

Like I Say before Raj Kapoor woes give honor to the woman. That she woes seal her lover for her sick kids. Because this Raj kapoor Touch her Legs. In India you give people honor by touching they legs. After he understands why she does at he gives her honor.

Then when He Back to his friend He tells him that she a mother and his friend ask why? He answer “Not a woman love she going to sold but a mother love. You don’t understand you are modern thinking”

This Also the true about our life and same of them stile exist. Same woman work for they family in this way.

Barsaat is one of Raj Kapoor movie that I wily like.
Barsaat is a Romantic and touching movies about love with a romantic Shooting Place.
Raj Kapoor and Nargis look so young in this movie and so lovely we can fell the beginning of there love story.
This movie includes many Amazing Background music with amazing Soundtrack songs. Amazing Star cast and must best Jodi Raj Kapoor and Nargis Dutt in the beginning way with there company Rk.
Best action of Raj Kapoor and Nargis even Prem Nath woes give an amazing preferment’s.

In this movie also Raj woes use the Dark Effect what make the movie moor Romantic.

There one part in the movie that looks interesting to me is the part when Resma (Nargis) Clean the Dishes and Pran play the violin. Nargis move her hair from her eyes in the way that She woes move her hair with the hands when Raj Kapoor First meets her.

The best part in the movie is the part when Nargis fold in Raj kapoor hands in the way like the Violin. I know it also woes the best part for Raj Kapoor After all He make this screen to be is Company Icon.

Moor best thing in the movie is the English song that Raj Kapoor Play on the Violin.

Radhu Karmakar

"When Nargis left R. K. Films in 1956, after her cameo in Jagte Raho, Raj Kapoor was devastated. He could not get over the fact that Nargis had indeed left him for good. He was tormented and had the appearance of a man who had lost his soul, as indeed he had. It was Nargis who was his inspiration from Aag onwards and he was artistically, a lonely man without moorings..."

These are some excerpts from the autobiographical book of Radhu Karmakar, the great camera artiste of Raj Kapoor. This book "Radhu Karmakar - The Painter of Lights" is the story, in his own words, of a very talented and self-effacing person who was a genius behind the camera. Radhu Karmakar desired neither fame nor fortune, and his ultimate ambition in life was to make a perfect film like Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane", says his wife Bani Karmakar.

Long dark path

Radhu started his film career with "Kismat ki Dhani" (1945) which was followed by "Milan" (1946, director Nitin Bose), and other super hits like "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Bahti Hai" (1958, Radhu Karmakar), "Mera Naam Joker" (1965, RK). "Param Vir Chakra", completed in 1995, was has last film.

Radhu has painstakingly studied the art of different cinematographers. From this book, we come to know that Radhu travelled a long dark path to attain the light of success. His years of struggle continued from 1931 to 1938. "I struggled a lot under stress," he writes. This interesting book opens the doors of nostalgia and re-explores the pretty as well as bitter side of the film industry. We come across the familiar stories of Bombay Talkies, Devika Rani and Ashok Kumar but in a different perspective. Since Radhu was a creative light and camera artiste, he had a close view of great personalities. This book moves in phases. Part one comprises Flash Back (1896-1960) and then it proceeds from the golden age to the Nargis era and finally fades out with Raj Kapoor.

What Is It That Make Many Remember Raj Kapoor? Forum

photo1
Many today, remember the late Raj Kapoor. Some enjoy listening to his songs, most of which were sung by the late Mukesh and some just enjoyed his films and many enjoyed watching his films as to them, he was considered portraying reality and for many facts of life. To many, he was the ultimate showman in Bollywood.

But what is it that makes millions outside India remember the showman? In countries like Russia and China, where there are not many Indians, still listen to songs from raj Kapoor's movies such as "Awara" and "Shree 420." In deed Raj Kapoor did go to Russia a long time ago and also had a Russian Circus in his epic movie, "Mera Naam Joker" and also gad a Russian actress in it. But what about China? Nothing suggests that the late showman went to China and yet many elderly Chinese have said that they grew up listening to his songs. It is understandable if someone from another country such as USA, Britain, where the Indian population is high outside India, says this.

In deed Raj Kapoor made films that in many ways were applicable to the public where reality was concerned. He showed reality in many ways and also went on to explain facts of life in more than one ways. So what was it about this showman that has made many remember his films and songs?
Well here is What Israel know about Raj Kapoor.

One day My dad back home I Remember I Woes in my room. then I hear the opining of Raj Kapoor You know with the Barsaat posion what Raj add to all his movie in the begin. Yes there many people in Israel that love so much the movie Sangam same of them Remember all the songs Today same of them will know only that Raj Kapoor make the movie Sangam and play there. But if you go to the old people and say Raj Kapoo they start singing to You "Ichak Dana" and "Awaara Hoon".
Legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor was not only popular in Russia, but also had his share of fans in China, according to Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni.

Speaking at the Traveller Diamond and Platinum Awards function, Soni said she was surprised that Indian films were watched in China, which she recently visited for a cultural event.

"A senior citizen asked me if any Indian film stars or songs would be seen in the festival. When I said no, he said he had grown up listening to the songs of Raj Kapoor's movie Awara," Soni recounted. "I was surprised to see the extent of the penetration of the Indian film industry," she added.

The Diamond Award at the event organised by Today's Traveller magazine was presented to well known producer-director Yash Chopra for his contribution to the Bollywood film industry. On the occasion, Soni released The Bollywood Connection, a book which showcases travel and tourism in the country by exploring different spheres of leisure and business.

"The Indian film industry has not only emerged as one of the biggest in the world but is also making quality films," Soni said.

Soni said actor Aamir Khan had been chosen to be the brand ambassador for the Atithi Devo Bhava campaign of the tourism ministry. Under the scheme, efforts are being made to increase social awareness about the needs of tourists, especially women travellers.

Yes! but what is it that makes one remember the late Raj Kapoor? Is it what he portrayed in his films, was it the man himself? What was it about his films that they made so appealing even today?

I entire;y agree with this. I had an Israeli friend at College who cam from Tel Aviv and one day as I playing some songs from "Sangam".He came and sat down and listened to them with me. Then he cried and when I asked him why, he said that he was "homesick" as he heard these songs at home so many times. The thing was that he could understand hindi and speak some words as well What he told me afterwards is that he could understand the message that was being passed on to the audience.
yes you right many people in Israel know the songs of Sangam. One time The israel Cinema make movies that talk about two mans that open a cinema house there they woes shows 24 The movie sangam. the true his that the story of the movie happend to them too. Just that the other man Wily Die in the army.
They also ask Premition for Rk Company to show Same parts of the movie. This woes amazing I can see Rk Icon in the end of the movie under the Thanks Line.

I wouldn't disagree with you at all.

If you watch his 1973 hit "Bobby, " which starred Rishi Kapoor and Dimple and in particular towards the end, when the two are about to jump from very high into a river gorge and his father, who had objected to the son marrying someone who he didn't approve of and also she was not a Hindu, begs the young couple to move away from the edge, the son just laughs off this and says that even if they were to move away, then the father wouldn't allow them to get married and that they would rather die together. The father keeps on trying until the son and the girlfriend ju,p off. The dialogues said it all - how the parents today have to accept no matter in which community or caste the son or daughter marries in, it has to be accepted. This film was considered to be way ahead of its time; but if you look into it a bit deeper now, you will notice that this sort of thing is happening now - intercaste marriages.

After "Mera Naam Joker," Raj Kapoor was almost without any money but he more than recovered it from "Bobby," in which his friend actor Pran and brother in law, Premnath are said to have worked for free.

I every Raj Kapoor movie, there was some sort of a message, I beilieve for the audience, which I think that is missing in a lot of the movies today.

Aag Film, conversation from the Forum

Aag Banner 01
ok first some off screen stuff the begining

The film was ready to go on the floors and Raj was determined to get himself the best studio in town. Famous Studio in Mumbai’s central suburb, Mahalaxmi, had been highly recommended to him. He’d heard that Jaddan Bai was at Famous Studio where her son Akhtar Hussain was shooting Romeo and Juliet, the first production of Nargis Art Concern. Raj rushed to the studio to meet bibiji with the intention of quizzing her about the facilities that Famous offered. But he missed her by minutes. The unit, he was told, had packed up for the day and gone home.

Raj impulsively decided he’d drive on to Marine Drive where Jaddan Bai had her apartment. A quarter of an hour later he was outside her door ringing the bell. Jaddan Bai’s eighteen-year-old daughter Nargis was in the kitchen frying bhajias. Hearing the doorbell peal she rushed to open the door and was so startled by the sight of a blue-eyed, rosy-cheeked stranger shuffling outside her door, that she put a hand nervously up to brush away her untidy locks and smeared her forehead with the besan dough on her fingers. Raj was enchanted by the image of this lovely girl with besan on her forehead and hair. The crimson blush staining her cheeks as she realized what had happened, enhanced the pretty picture. Stammering with embarrassment Nargis asked him shyly who he was. Raj introduced himself as Prithviraj Kapoor’s son. Nargis recalled seeing him in the play, Deewar, at Prithvi Theatre and invited him in. But when Raj enquired about bibiji and learnt that Nargis was at home alone he refused to enter the apartment and hurried away.

He went straight to the home of his scriptwriter, Inder Raj Anand. “I must have that girl in my film. Write her into the screenplay of Aag,” he commanded. And Nargis walked into Aag in the ninth reel.
after reading this
now notice in the opening titles that nargis name comes first
Thanks again for the good info kkm.

Did you know that Raj make two shoots in this movie?
It look like Raj kapoor do shout of the first song on this movie. You can see that before the song Raj Woes with out his Masestach and then on the song he have at.
I think the mustache scene was shot after the completion of the film its more like a portrait for example when we sometimes pose infront of a still camera for a nice photo.
in the above article from net it says that nargis kicks in the movie on 9th reel the total number of reels is 13 so nargis appearance is only 30% in this movie
and what an apperance
While watching Aag I got to see some similarities with Mera Naam Joker, as a matter of fact two of his most personal films.
The first that came to mind is about the "phases" into witch both movies are devided, ok Aag doesn't have the three chapter division but it is build in three times of the life of the main character, the first being his days as a child, then his youth and highschool days, the last one is his adult days with him finding his way in life and his work as a theater director.

A second thing is about visual situations that are found in the two films... the first image is the one while Keval is alone on stage and expressing his feeling in a form of monologue in front of void seets, so similar to the scene where Raju the joker is singing one of the songs into the circus tent and yet again in front of a void place...

A third one is about a clown that in Aag Keval, as a child sees while a circus is coming to his hometown, the clown is just announcing the coming of the shows with the circus...same image is in MNJ only this time the clown presenting the show at the gathering crowd is Raju himself.

Even though I did not analize in full the meaning if any, certainly to me it seems too specific to be only random coincidences.

Raj Kapoor on his life and times

Raj Kapoor on his life and times, Interview Of Raj Kapoor By Rohini Iyer

user posted image
He would tell his life story passionately. Like he made films. From Awara to Ram Teri Ganga Maili, he was obsessed with all his films even though his profession had taken much more than given in return. It took me a long time to convince him to talk about himself. It took me even longer to tell him that it was for an interview for public reading. Finally, after much cajoling from me and my good friend Randhir Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, relented.

It was over innumerous cups of tea, and endless meetings at his cottage that I finally got him to relive his past. And the glory of it!

He sat cross-legged on the divan, with a far away look in his eyes. With the shades drawn and the décor tastefully subdue in the pearly light, time in the RK cottage seemed to have suspended. Even the sun tiptoed in with caution as Raj Kapoor spoke:

My parents:
We hail from a small town called Samandru. My grandfather was a judge and my grandmother wished that my father Prithviraj Kapoor too would study law and become a judge like her husband. But my father had other plans. A graduate, he took keen interest in literature and Shakespeare. He was very fond of Ramleela and that's how he got interested in theatre.

Once, he was chosen to play Ram in a small Ramleela company, but his parents were against it. Those days acting was not considered a respectable profession. Only prostitutes and other such lower classes were associated with it. My grandparents felt very humiliated that their son was a part of Ramleela. But my father had made up his mind and one fine day, he gave up his studies, left home and came to Bombay with my mother and me. We lived in a one-room tenement on Reay Road.

From here he started his struggle in films. And that was the beginning of the legend that he was to become. Papaji was like a universe. I've never seen a more complete man. We, Shammi, Shashi and myself are nothing compared to him. In a way he was responsible for the star system. He was the first actual star on Hindi screen.

His spirit was always the same, undiminished till the last day. Papaji died of throat cancer. I took him to Sloane Kettering and we tried everything to save him. The doctors gave him three months to live. He wanted to come back and die in his own house. When the end came, Shashi was in London and its incredible how Papaji remained alive till his son's return. As soon he arrived Papaji took his three son's hands in his and said: 'Never shall you three brothers part!' and then passed away.

My brothers:
I think we brothers realised his loss more and more as we grew older. We actually grew closer after his death. Earlier we had drifted apart in search of our goals... our success. But strangely with age our memories of our childhood sharpened. I used to work on stage as a child artist. Shammi and Shashi also joined me. Shashi loved the theatre like Papaji, while I loved cinema. Shammi struck a happy medium. Nobody knows this, but my parents had two more children, Virendra (Bindi) and Davendra. Both died at a very young age. Virendra by accidentally swallowing rat poison, and Davendra of pneumonia, at the age of three. Recently when Shashi and I were jointly admitted in the Breach Candy Hospital, I felt very protective towards him. A woman always has her man, but the man unconsciously leans on his roots, his heritage. He feels like an orphan without his parents.

My marriage, my family:
Mine was the only arranged marriage among us brothers. Actually Krishna is my bua, my father's second cousin. One fine day my father said, "You are getting married," and I said, "Yes father". That was in 1946 when I was 22 years old.

Nine months later Daboo was born. When he was 15 days old my father introduced him to the audiences at the Opera House where he was performing a play. He put paint on his face and applied a tilak on his forehead and announced his birth. That was the kind of pride he had in his work. He was far removed from today's actors, and this includes my own sons, who make their living out of films and hypocritically say: "Oh, we don't like filmi people!"

My studio:
I've struggled a lot for what I have today. Those days most of the shootings took place indoors, there were very few outdoors. Once when I was shooting for Awara, I had completed 13 days of shooting when on the 14th day I was asked to dismantle my sets because the studio had been hired to someone else. I was very upset and that day I decided to make my own studio. I put together all the money I had and laid the foundation of RK Studio. During our days money was very hard to come by. It took almost ten years to earn my first lakh!

When I was picturising the song Ghar aaya mera pardesi on 13 different sets my wife Krishna saw it and her reaction was: "We don't have a house to live in and you are spending all your money on your studio!" I understood her concerns and explained to her: "Jo pehle set banate hain, unke ghar baad main bante hain. Jo pehle ghar banate hain unke set kabhi nahin bante."

Initially I had thought that only RK films would be shot in my studio but God had something else in mind for me. Jab main fakir ban gaya, I had to let others shoot in my studio. No, Nargis never helped me financially. I never took money from her to build RK but RK ke har set par Nargis ki mehnat aur lagan chuppi hui hai. The RK emblem is a reflection of her contribution to the studio. Without her the emblem cannot fully represent RK. Later, I bought a house in Deonar and shifted there with my children. My father refused to come with me, he preferred to stay back in our old house in Matunga, nor did he ask for anything from me. He never asked me how much I earned. I've continued this tradition.

Disillusionment:
One has to change to adapt to the new breed. But sometimes I don't understand the new world. I remember, some years ago, an actress came to me with her father for a role in Kal Aaj Aur Kal. While negotiating the price the father said: "Look I'm not interested in your RK banner. I'm only interested in how much you pay my daughter." This is what the system has done to today's actors. Maybe they are right, but there is a sense of loss in all this.

A girl like Padmini Kolhapure, who is tremendously talented, is allowing herself to be a victim of the system by her choice of films. Why, for Mr Rishi Kapoor's dates I've got to go to his secretary and plead with him! I laugh when people call me a legend or an institution. V Shantaram or Mehboob Khan could be called that. Not me. I only feel old and tired. And I see RK as a flickering flame. It is up to Daboo, Chintu and Chimpu to keep it burning. It is now up to them.

Vyjayantimala had a relationship with my dad

‘Of course, Vyjayantimala had a relationship with my dad…’
Sangam[1]

Rishi Kapoor is livid that the yesteryear actress called her link-up with Raj Kapoor a publicity gimmick in her autobiography
In her autobiography titled Bonding... A Memoir, yesteryear actress Vyjayantimala Bali has denied her much-publicised relationship with the late filmmaker Raj Kapoor.
She has not only denied a relationship with him, but has also implied that it was a publicity gimmick fuelled by the PR machinery of the R K Films banner.
After Sunday Mid Day carried excerpts from her book (see box), the legendary filmmaker’s son Rishi Kapoor is furious with her comments.
An irritated Rishi says, “I respect her as a lady and a senior actress, but she is talking rubbish.
Ideally, I would not have commented on this but my father is no more and I am only speaking to defend his reputation.
I will not lie and say that my father didn’t have a relationship with her.
Of course, my dad had a relationship with Vyjayantimala. How can she deny it?”
He adds that the family has suffered greatly on her account. “I remember I was 11 years old when the relationship started, and my mother and the rest of us left our house and lived in Natraj Hotel for four-and-a-half months.
She caused torment to my family, so the least she can do now is own up. Instead, she’s lying and trying to malign my father’s name by saying it was a publicity stunt driven by him.”
Unable to come to terms with the actress’s turnaround, Rishi laughs, “Can you believe it? It’s absurd. My father never needed that kind of publicity.
The whole world knows that Vyjayanti was involved with him. Why is she denying it? This is the case of ‘nau sau chuhe kha ke billi haj ko chali’.”
The actor, who spoke to his siblings after reading excerpts in Sunday Mid Day, asks angrily, “Why just my father, she finally got married to Dr Bali, who was a married man.
His son Ratan Bali (from his first wife) is now with Air India and is possibly a year or two younger than me. I’m sure he suffered too when his father walked out on the family to marry the actress.”
Kapoor is in no mood to forgive such a distortion of facts. “It’s very nice to write your memoirs, but you should have the guts to be honest. You cannot deny facts.
Why did Vyjayantimala write an autobiography if it was going to be fiction? I would never have reacted to her book if she hadn’t stirred up a hornet’s nest by distorting facts,” he concludes.

Melody-master Raj Kapoor

Melody-master Raj Kapoor
By I.M. Soni

RAJ Kapoor was a melody-master par excellence. Lata Mangeshkar says, “One thing I have noticed through the years — that, no matter who be the music director of an RK film, in the end the music is given by Raj Kapoor himself.”

He was unlike others who engage a music director and the lyrics are set to tunes. He “composed” the tunes himself and stored them to be used later in his films as when the situation demanded.

O basanti pavan pagal... was shaped into a beautiful song in “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai.” But it was first used in a snatch as background music in “Awaara” when Prithviraj Kapoor visits his son in jail and calls him “beta” for the first time.

Sun sahiba sun...was approved by Raj Kapoor for RK’s “Ajanta” as far back as 1952. The film did not go on the floor at all.

Raj had visualised the song on Nargis, but it was finally picturised on Mandakini decades later.

When Raj Kapoor launched on his career as a film-maker, he had wanted Shanker-Jaikishan for “Aag”, but Ram Ganguly was thrust on him by Prithviraj.

“Aag” launched Mukesh as Raj Kapoor’s ghost voice with Zinda hoon.... Mukesh become Raj’s “soul mate” in the latter’s own words.

Shanker-Jaikishan who evolved a fresh style of music for RK camp were guided and inspired by Raj himself. It was Raj Kapoor who fashioned Lata’s singing technique for the duo, according to Kishore Bhiwani.

The dream sequence in “Awaara” was shot for 23 hours at one stretch. The takes were repeated till Lata’s voice became limpid, a silver stream of sweet melody.

Raj Kapoor was always present at the time of song rendering. Chithiye dard firaaq waaliye... (“Heena”) had been composed and ready for Lata. Raj Kapoor came into the recording room. He changed the tune and the orchestration of Ravindra Jain. Chithiye... thus turned into a tune composed impromptu Raj Kapoor.

Laxmikant-Pyarelal who composed music for “Bobby” said they walked out as the music for the film was given by Raj himself. They had only to arrange it.

Raj Kapoor’s heart was not really in the “Mera Naam Joker” songs sans Lata for reason which may not be stated here. The songs did not come from Raj Kapoor’s heart. The voice was missing. The vision (Nargis)had already vanished.

Lata says in the book named after her: “Very few film makers in our industry have such a grounding in music. He could play the piano, the tabla and the flute... The opening lines of the songs in his films were written by him... and even some of the tunes were composed by him, not entire songs, but the opening lines.”

The music master is gone. Now his ever-haunting legacy of songs will endure like the RK emblem — the lover with a violin in his hand

Discuss about Neel Kamal Movie (From the Forum)

RajKapoorFan : Like I Read in Raj Kapoor Biography is that Raj woes Kidar Nath Sharma assistant but this time I Try to late Raj to play the Hero.
Did you see to the girl that play Ganga in her young age I think she the same girl that play on Boot Pulish.
I don't find her on the cast list but it stile can be her
Kkm: i have read this in different sites and raj kapoors different biography's that when he refused to carry on his studies his father who at that time was working with kidar sharma asked kidar to give him some work so raj got some work in the studios washing the floor errecting sets etc etc
while he was working there he became a clapper boy

kidar was shooting a scene of a movie where the king is dying but he could not get it right for 2 days because he wanted to shoot the sunset with king dying now the 3rd day everything was perfect the shot was ready the clapper boy was missing because he was combing his hair he rushed to the set and clapped but unfortunately the beard got stuck in his claps and came off everybody on the set started laughing which made kidar crazy and he slapped raj with great anger
kidar remembers he could not sleep that night

next day when he came to studios to his amazment raj was on duty
he called him in his office and saw marks of his slap still on this face
in regret he just offered him a role of hero in his next movie neel kamal

after reading all this if you watch the movie you will know what you are looking at
RajKapoorFan: What I Know that this movie woes shoot after Raj Saab leave the last studies. He move to work with Kidar Nath Sharma
"That is how I began my career, as the sixth or seventh assistant, trolley-puller, clapper-boy, somewhere in the laboratory picking up odd shots and in the editing department looking at the use of the gamma plus (the solution uses for editing) - that gave me a lot of basic training about the fundamentals of cinema. In 1944, Mr Kidar Sharma gave me my first lead as an actor in his film Neel Kamal. I had been his junior-most assistant for three years. One of my tasks was to give the clap before every shot. " (Raj Kapoor)

The movie show the begin of Raj Kapoor Career of Actor what he cell at an accident But Raj Never stop thing about his dream. He same the money from his Acting from his Company.
There same thing that Only His Big Fans can fell on this movie and this is the way of his act Raj doing great work in here the true that this film woes shoot after "Dil Ki Rani". It look like Raj woes waiting to this Drama movie. He woes so connect to the Drama.
I don't know way but I Stile think that there same thing missing in this movie. The Story also good but same thing stile missing.

Kkm: i think the missing thing is that the script is not very good

it feels that if different scenes are collected put in a box give it a good shuffle and thats it

i also felt that film maker was in a hurry in making the movie
RajKapoorFan: Yeah it sure what wily make you fell that the movie maker try to hurry by making this film.
It can be also the problem with the Person that Write the script Maybe He write Shurt Script and He think that the songs take same time of the movie.

Raj Kapoor's familiarity in China Revealed

Minister of Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni had a surprise to hear that Raj Kapoor who is known popular in Soviet Union and today's Russia, also equally familiar with Chinese older generation.

While she was attending an award function a senior citizen approached her and enquired about screening of Indian film stars or songs would be a part of the festival she answered in negative, the elderly person recounted with her by saying that he grown up listening to the songs of Raj Kapoor's film 'Awara'.

The minister was surprised to hear such words since it is restricted to the knowledge that RK was familiar with Russia alone.

Raj Kapoor through his films even penetrated beyond so far known boundaries, as it reveals by the event.

But RK once told during the visit to USSR, "My popularity in Russia is a phenomenon I can't explain myself, except that my films Awara and Shree 420 came at an opportune moment, when the Russian people were changing themselves culturally. In these films they saw the spirit of the Indian youth in revolt and they loved him, as he became the symbol of their own spirit. This identity with the Indian youth that I portrayed drew us closer; our friendship has been a long-standing one. Even today I get a warm welcome from them."

This version seems to be applicable to all regimes where ever there is a change and transformation happens as China also experienced such moments in the post-Mao lead revolution.

Raj Kapoor: The Face Behind The Star

Book: Raj Kapoor
Author: Ritu Nanda
Publisher: R K Studios and Films
Page: 221

Lata Mangeshkar was the inspiration behind Raj Kapoor’s Satyam Shivam Sundaram and he wanted to cast her in the 1978 R K Banner film, reveals Raj Kapoor’s daughter Ritu Nanda in her latest book.

“I visualised the story of a man falling for a woman with an ordinary countenance but a golden voice and wanted to cast Lata Mangeshkar in the role,” the book quotes Raj Kapoor as saying.

“I visualised the story of a man falling for a woman with an an ordinary countenance but a golden voice and wanted to cast Lata Mangeshkar in the role,” Ritu Nanda quotes Raj Kapoor as saying. He believed that love and faith were contingent on purity of any relationship not on beauty. The book Raj Kapoor further says that Lata who had initially agreed to act in the film later declined the offer.

The book, which is a Hindi version of 2002 published book Raj Kapoor Speaks, released recently at a function held in the capital.

The book talks at length about Raj Kapoor’s relationships with his female co-stars particularly his bonding and later estrangement with Nargis. “Raj Kapoor’s egoistic tendencies and the futility of the future of their relationship made the ending of the relationship inevitable,” believes the author.

Raj Kapoor later recalled, accepting Mother India was probably the toughest decision for Nargis. She had to decide whether to continue a relationship with Raj Kapoor without any future or to create a new life for her by leaving R K Studio, Ritu says.

Although Raj Kapoor never defined their relationship, he once said, “We understood each other. I cannot express my feelings towards her. No, it was not love, although I liked her very much. Probably it was a great emotional bonding of two great artists.”

Nargis inspired Raj Kapoor in many ways. He met her when he was working on his first movie Aag. Describing his reaction, Raj Kapoor said that Nargis was a ‘fairy’ and later used this very scene in his movie Bobby.

It is quite clear that despite all the hardships that they faced, their respect for each other was mutual. Even the RK logo is somehow inspired by the legendary actress. Inspired by a still from his second movie Barsaat in this famous scene Raj Kapoor is holding Nargis in his one hand and a violin in the second.

This exalted image of love, beauty and music became the logo and identity of RK Studio. Perhaps the greatest irony of the showman’s life was that his best movies flopped badly on box office and pushed him into great financial troubles.
He could never get over with the failure of Mera Naam Joker and Jagte Raho,(his last movie with Nargis). These movies remained very dear to him. Raj Kapoor felt that these movies were ahead of their times and could not appeal to the public at that time.

Raj Kapoor’s love for the common public was represented in his movies. He said, “From my very first movie, I have played ordinary characters. I never tried to play the role of a blue eyed handsome young man in my movies.”

Raj Kapoor believed that the audience had to identify with whatever was happening on the screen. It was his measure of making the right movie. “Never make anything in which you have no faith… I had the offer of some great movies which had all the material to be successful but I did not make them because they failed to inspire me.”

Raj Kapoor, who has often been criticised for exploiting the nubile charms of his leading ladies had a very liberal view on presenting women, the book says.

Questioning this criticism he once said, “We are shocked to see nudity, we need to get mature. I have always respected women but don’t understand why I am accused of exploiting them. Fellini’s nude woman is considered Art but when I show a woman’s beauty on screen, then it is called exploitation.”

Commenting upon his “miraculous popularity” in Soviet Union, the showman believes that the Russians fresh from a mass revolution identified with his ordinary hopeful heros.

“My miraculous popularity in Russia has often left me wondering…Probably it had to do with the fact that Awara and Shree 420 were released there at a time when they were going through a great cultural revolution. My heroes became a symbol of their own struggles and aspirations,” the book says.

Cinema was Raj Kapoor’s life, his soul and the reason of his very existence. They signified the struggle and dreams of a nascent nation in search of a new identity.

His movies represent eternal hope. In his own words, “When I die bring my body to my studio. It is quite possible that I may wake up amid their lights shouting Action…Action”.
